The Internet started as a way for information to be spread and accessed by mass amounts of people. Today, most people couldn’t go back to life before Wi-Fi and Google. Although I do use the internet as a source for information, I have found that most of my browsing is for social uses; to connect with others, watch TV or find out what my friends latest Facebook status is. The act of writing down my habits on the web made me aware of the many uses that I require the Internet for. Entertainment, but also last minute fact checks, homework help or even a way to put an end to a heated discussion of which actress was in that one movie.
Although the Internet is widely used today around the world, ten years ago this was not true. While today it is frustrating to walk into a restaurant and not have Wi-Fi, it is clear that we have come a long way even from dial up. It will be interesting to see how the world of technology develops and continues to grow within the next few years. What will be the next big invention? A virtual computer? A robot that does all the searching for you? No matter what the world of inventions holds, the amount of things we have access to via the computer is ever growing. This growth has both pros and cons and is viewed differently by different people but whether we like it or not our world has certainly been transformed because of it.
Great post.
ReplyDeleteHow do you think the use of the internet will develop of the next decade or so? Do you think it will become more of a useful tool or remain a place where time goes to die?
I think that in the next few years people are going to discover even more ways to use the Internet as a tool rather than just for entertainment. We already have many tools at our discretion that we don't take advantage of. I think the older generations are going to become more reliant on the Internet as well and see the advantages that the Internet holds.
